Pascua

There has been a bunny invasion in our crooked little house. 

Here we have a love for bunnies. And beacuase easter is here I decided to make a little something for the kids easter egg hunt. I was inspired by these bunnies from Attic 24 and throught of making a variation out of the huge pile of felt that I have.  

Each one of the kiddos will be getting one. And since easter crept up on me I thought I would try making these with the sewing machine....

Big mistake....I am a hand sewing kind of person, so the first one came out...well lets just say he is not as pretty as the hand sewn ones. 

The purple one is already claimed by Basti. He also requested that his bunny have purple ears. He is in a lovely age. Defiant, but lovely age. From the moment he wakes up till the moment he falls asleep he is chatting up a storm. Currently he has an obsession with horses and chameleons. We watched Rapunzel yesterday and he fell utterly in love with the chameleon.

    " I want to hold a camaleon in my hand mama. I want to give it hugs and make it change colors." 

They are pretty cool. I wouldn't mind having one. Especially after the disaster our current pet is. We have a part jack russell part scary monter as a "pet". Without kids he is an obedient playful lovable dog. But with small kids he because an incontrolable monster. We are currently looking for a new home for him, because I can tell he is not happy here and Basti is petrified of him. 

But either way, back to more pleasant things. Easter, Spring, Flowers

...ahhh. Much better.

This easter has been much nicer than last year's. I remember being very pregnant and achy, still living in Ludwigshafen in our apartment and the mister working hard at renovating the empty shell that was our crooked little house. Amazing how things change. How wonderful to be here.

Glorious play

Today I decided to let the dishes sit in the dish washer a little longer, the laundry wait to be hung, and the vacuum to be silent. There are more urgent things at the present moment.

Shifting, grazing, burrowing into fibers. I am time travelling and listening to each scrap. They talk about long winters, speechless merchants, crooked yellow houses, un spoken truths, hidden dreams. They are buzzing like the sleepy bugs that are swarming outside. I am recharged as I untangle my beloved scraps. 

And as always through the mess comes a foundation. Stepping stones leading up a pathway to home. My own place. My little crooked house. 

And I continue on, grabbing, returning, looking, placing, removing; until something else feels right and fits.

I am safe here, engulfed by warmth. I am home. 

Returning

I have returned to cloth. I have had enough of the relaxing effects of crochet. They have done me a world of good. However, I have realized there is an adverse affect. My mind becomes dormant. I stop being that questioning, imaginative person that I love being. The cloth, on the other hand makes me search, question, wander, and some times loose my sense of reality. 

It is when I get lost within the fibers that I thrive. 

So after a few slices of my banana almond bread smeared with nutella and the obligatory coffee, I went upstairs to my space.

Straightened things up after a messy weekend. And looked for my forgetten self. Bits an pieces were hidding underneath bags and dust. And among them I found my first large cloth, Monster City. Something I never got around finishing . Now that I looked at it again, with a different mind set all I can see is anger, and fear. I could not continue with it. 

I took it apart. There were still pieces that I can use later. And the girl, well, how could I get rid of her. She is a reminder of my battle, that dark period. She needs some light and ease after such a struggle. 

So I sit here, surrounded by cloth and it feels so good. I feel eager to see what can come out of my happiness.

Oh Bernina

I have finally received my first sewing machine ever!!!! And I actually know how to use it. At first I was petrified about the prospect of it arriving and having to show my hubby I would in fact use it. So I searched the world wide web and found a wonderful little tutorial on how to use a sewing machine by Chica and Jo (here is the link to the tutorial http://www.chicaandjo.com/2009/10/20/finding-your-way-around-the-machine/). So for several hours, once the little one was fast asleep, began to make my future nieces quilt. It is a simple three colored block quilt, nothing fancy, but I wanted something that I could do quickly since her arrival is quickly approaching.

So, after re threading too many times and cursing at my younger self for not paying attention to the weekly sewing classes my abuelita gave us, I have successfully sewn together three rows out of the ten total. I will hopefully finish the top part today and then will move on to the next challenge...sewing the three layers together!!!

Since Christmas is almost upon us I have several things that I want to try to make and have yet to begin. Also, it is quite difficult to find the things I need because of where I am located and my terrible German.
